The Acura MDX wraps a family-friendly ride in a premium package, but it's more than just a pretty face. This crossover SUV performs like a champ no matter which engine it has under its hood. The MDX carries over into 2023 without any significant changes other than the addition of a two-year complimentary maintenance plan and complimentary access to the AcuraLink plan for three years. Trim Levels (Exterior)

The base MDX comes with 19-inch wheels, a panoramic sunroof, automatic headlights, heated side mirrors, and a power tailgate. The Technology adds 20-inch wheels and power folding mirrors, and the A-Spec has LED fog lights. The Advance adds to the A-Spec with roof rails, a hands-free liftgate, adaptive suspension dampers, and LED exterior door handle lighting. Step up to the sporty Type S and Type S Advance for 21-inch wheels, Brembo front brakes, and Type-S exterior styling.

Engine (Power)

The standard engine for the MDX is a 3.5-liter V-6 gas engine that puts out 290 horsepower. It works with Acura's 10-speed automatic transmission and comes with front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is available as an option for all models except the Type S, where it comes standard. The Type S models get a 3.0-liter turbo V-6 engine with 355 horsepower. It has a transmission and an all-wheel-drive system tuned for sportier performance and can reach 60 mph in just 5.5 seconds.

Performance

The MDX has a sporty ride for a three-row SUV, and it's even better if you have the Type S. This sporty version also has an air suspension that allows for different ride heights depending on which drive mode you select. If you choose Sport or Sport +, it drops down just over a half inch, but then it raises 2 inches when you're in Lift mode. When equipped with the available tow package, the MDX can pull up to 5,000 pounds.

Interior

There's room for up to seven people in the MDX. The base model has simulated leather upholstery, heated front seats, and tri-zone automatic climate control. You'll get leather upholstery in the Technology, along with rear window sunshades, passenger seat memory settings, and ambient lighting. The A-Spec has ventilated front seats and a cabin intercom system, and the Advance has a heated steering wheel and heated second-row seats. Some of the tech features you can get in the MDX include a 12.3-inch central display screen with touchpad controls, wireless charging, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and USB ports in the first two rows.

Safety Features

Every 2023 Acura MDX comes with the AcuraWatch suite of advanced safety systems. The bundle includes forward collision warning, automatic braking, and lane-keep assist. It also includes adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, traffic jam assist, a blind-spot monitor, and rear cross-traffic alert. Every MDX also comes with hill start assist and a tire pressure monitoring system that will alert the driver when the tires are low or when they reach the correct pressure. Bumping up to the Advance gets you a head-up display and a 360-degree surround-view camera system,
