As time passes, vehicle components will become worn or damaged. This reduces driving performance and can impact your safety if they’re not replaced. As your Acura dealership, we’d like you to know some signs you need to visit us for maintenance.

From Your Acura Dealership: 3 Signs Your Acura Needs Maintenance

Coolant Leak

Coolant is essential for your Acura, as it helps control the engine temperature. Your engine works most efficiently at a high temperature, but excessive heat levels will damage sensitive engine components and cause engine failure in the long term. The coolant is pumped through your engine at high speed, absorbing heat as it moves and transporting it to the radiator for removal by heat exchange.

A coolant leak can happen due to loose radiator hoses, damaged seals, a rusted radiator, and several other factors. As coolant is lost, pressure in the cooling system drops, and the remaining coolant slows down. This will cause a major increase in engine temperature, and the engine can overheat. If your engine temperature rises for no apparent reason, contact us ASAP so our skilled technicians can identify and fix the problem.

Cupped Tires

Cupping is an odd form of tire wear that looks like the tread edges have been scooped out at regular intervals. This type of problem is caused by damaged shocks or poor wheel alignment. The shocks are designed to absorb and dissipate impact from driving over irregular surfaces, protecting the tires from excessive wear and providing a smooth ride. Worn shocks cause tread sections to hit the surface harder than necessary, producing cupping.

Wheel alignment is the angle of your wheels relative to the axle to enhance vehicle performance and distribute weight. Depending on your Acura model, your wheels could be perpendicular to the ground or angled inward or outward when viewed from straight ahead or above. It changes over time, and incorrect alignment causes cupping. We can replace damaged shocks or correct your wheel alignment to prevent further damage.

Engine Misfiring

Misfiring is caused by poorly timed combustion in one or more cylinders. Air and fuel mix in the intake manifold, and, once correctly blended, are drawn into the engine cylinders. The cylinders close, and the pistons rise at high speed to compress the mixture. Once the mixture is compressed, it is ignited by the spark plugs to produce combustion.

Worn ignition coils, damaged spark plugs, or poor cylinder compression can all cause the mixture to burn poorly. If this happens, you’ll feel a drop in engine power and hear a noise from the engine. Continued misfiring will cause serious damage to the cylinders and pistons. Our technicians will find and repair the cause of the issue, and your engine will work efficiently again.
