Transmission service is just one of the forms of service you’ll need to visit the Acura dealership for on a regular basis. Even though you may stick to your maintenance schedule as outlined in your owner’s manual, your transmission may still fall into disrepair unexpectedly, and you’ll notice certain signs when it does.

7 Signs Your Acura Needs a Transmission Service From Your Acura Dealership

1. Your Transmission Fluid Is Leaking

Transmission fluid ranges from bright red to deep brown depending on how old it is. If you spot a pool of fluid in one of these colors by your vehicle, then make sure you check your fluid levels. There’s a chance the pool may be transmission fluid, and you might not have enough left in your vehicle to drive to the dealership safely.

2. Your Gears Are Slipping

Slipping out of gear can be alarming for you and dangerous for everybody on the road. This is because when you slip gears, it makes it difficult to control your vehicle’s deceleration and acceleration. So, you might end up driving faster or for longer than you intend to when you need to slow down to a stop.

If it feels like your tires no longer have traction on the road or your engine is revving too much during a gear change, then you will know your vehicle is slipping gears.

3. Your Vehicle Is Jerking During Gear Changes

Your vehicle should always shift smoothly between gears while you accelerate and decelerate. If transitions are no longer smooth, and it feels like somebody has yanked your car by an invisible bungee cord, then it’s time to get your transmission checked.

4. Your Gears Are Grinding

If you hear your gears grinding during a transition, then you need to go to the dealer. You might feel them grinding, too, causing unmissable vibrations.

5. Your Car Is Noisy While in Neutral

Modern cars don’t make a lot of noise, especially not in neutral. If there are grinding, bumping, or other unusual sounds happening while your car is in neutral, then it’s time to get your transmission checked out.

6. Your Car Is Kicking and Shaking

If your car is no longer running smoothly during gear changes, and instead, it’s kicking or shaking, then it’s safe to assume that something’s wrong with the transmission. Gear shifts may feel more jarring with an automatic transmission, or you could experience the grinding issue mentioned earlier if your car has a manual transmission.

7. Your Car Won’t Switch Gears

If your car refuses to change gears, then there’s something wrong with the transmission. Your car may not flat-out refuse to switch gears, but it could have a delayed response to gear shifts, especially from park to drive, instead.
