Acura is committed to your driving safety and has created a suite of safety systems to make driving safer than ever. This system is called AcuraWatch and is installed in every Acura. We’ll look at some of these Acura safety features and see how they work to keep you and your passengers safe on the road.
Acura Safety Features: Innovations for Secure Driving
Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS)
This system uses radar and camera technology to scan the road ahead for other vehicles. If a vehicle is detected, CMBS calculates the possibility of an accident based on vehicle speed and distance and provides audio and visual warnings if a collision is likely. These warnings give you enough time to brake or take other actions, like steering around the other vehicle, to prevent an accident.
CMBS will also automatically apply the brakes, if needed, to bring your Acura to a stop and prevent a collision. Some versions of this technology can also identify pedestrians in your path and automatically slow down or brake to avoid hitting them.
Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)
This feature uses advanced camera technology to identify lane line markings, Botts dots, and cat-eye markers. LKAS will actively work to keep you centered in your lane when driving, reducing your need to correct your Acura’s positioning constantly. It will also warn you if you accidentally stray toward the lane lines, and you’re not actively steering. It’s active when moving at speeds between 45 and 90 mph.
Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
ACC allows you to set a speed when driving on the highway, and the system will maintain that speed until you intervene. It uses a camera and radar to detect vehicles ahead of you and automatically adjusts your speed, as needed, to maintain a safe following distance.
Road Departure Mitigation (RDM)
This system is similar to LKAS, but it works at lower speeds. Like LKAS, it uses a camera to identify lane lines, road edge markers, and Bott’s dots. RDM displays a warning on your screen if you’re about to leave the road. If you don’t respond, this system uses steering assist to turn your wheel to direct you away from the road edge. It can also apply emergency braking to prevent you from leaving the road.
It includes a Lane Departure Warning (LDW), which warns you if your wheels are about to cross out of your lane and you’re not actively steering. A warning will appear on your screen and an audible warning tone will sound to advise you to turn back into your lane.
These are just some of the Acura systems that work to protect you. If you’d like to know more, contact us today at Open Road Acura of East Brunswick in East Brunswick, NJ.
