What It Does
Acura’s intelligent cruise control feature is part of the AcuraWatch suite of safety and driver-assistive technologies that is standard on all Acura sedans and SUVs. The ACC enables you to program a desired cruising speed and will maintain it automatically. For added road safety, Acura’s ACC also allows you to set the following distance between yourself and the vehicle in front of you. Choose from short, medium, long, and extra-long intervals to suit current driving conditions.
With the ACC engaged, you can reduce driving-induced stress and road fatigue, especially on long stretches of road. When equipped with the Low-Speed Follow or Traffic Jam Assist options, the Acura ACC will automatically brake and come to a full stop whenever the vehicle in front of you does the same.
How It Works
Acura’s enhanced cruise control feature utilizes sophisticated technologies to monitor the vehicle in front of you and maintain the programmed cushion of following distance. A front-mounted millimeter wave radar tracks the vehicle ahead, while a monocular camera monitors the interval. As real-time data is fed to the system’s processor, adjustments to your driving speed are automatically made.
Using Acura’s ACC
Set Your Cruising Speed
The first step in using your Acura’s ACC feature is to set the cruising speed. Press MAIN in the cruise control button cluster on your steering wheel so that the ACC LKAS icon appears on your driver’s display panel. Accelerate to your target speed and press SET. With the Acura ACC initiated, your cruising speed has been set and you can take your foot off the accelerator.
Set the Following Interval
The following distance between your Acura and the vehicle in front of you can be set using the INTERVAL button in the cruise control cluster on your steering wheel (it has a car icon on it). There are four following intervals that can be programmed using the Acura ACC:
- Short – approximate follow distance of 100 feet at a set speed of 65 mph
- Medium – 137 feet
- Long – 200 feet
- Extra Long – 272 feet
The interval range is indicated by the appearance of horizontal bars underneath the car icon. One bar corresponds to the short interval, two bars correspond to the medium interval, and so on.
