Healthy tires grip the surface more securely, improving driving control and reducing braking distance so you can drive safely. In time, even the highest-quality tires will become worn or damaged. As your Acura dealership, we’d like you to know a few signs you need to visit us for tire maintenance.
Signs You Need To Visit Your Acura Dealership for Tire Maintenance
Center Tread Wear
As time passes, the tire tread naturally wears down due to surface friction. If you notice the center of the tread is more worn than it should be, your tires are probably over-inflated. The outer edges of an overinflated tire curve upward. This places all your Aucra’s weight on the center of the tread, leading to excessive wear.
Overinflated tires are dangerous to drive on. Friction when driving causes the air inside your tires to heat up and expand. If a tire is overinflated, the excessive amount of air inside stretches the rubber thinner than it should be. This makes an overinflated tire more prone to blowout and potentially cause a serious accident. We’ll correct your tire pressure, but we may need to replace the tire if it’s severely damaged.
Cupped Tires
Cupping is a strange wear pattern that can develop on the outer edges of the tread that looks like regularly spaced gouges. The main cause of this problem is damaged shocks. The shocks absorb vibrations caused by moving over rough terrain, providing a smoother ride and preventing excessive up-and-down tire movement, which reduces wear damage.
If your shocks are worn, your tires will bounce when driving. This causes the outer tire edges to hit the ground harder than necessary, producing the cupping effect. You won’t notice this damage unless you examine your tires, but you will feel the effect of damaged shocks. Worn shocks cause a bumpy, shaky ride. We’ll repair or replace damaged shocks and check your tires for signs of damage, replacing them if necessary.
Tire Vibrations
If you feel vibrations when driving, this is a sign something is wrong. This problem can be caused by poor wheel alignment, incorrect balance, or damage to a tire’s internal structure. We’ll examine your tires, and while we can’t fix internal damage, we can replace the tire. Balancing issues can easily be corrected using our computerized wheel-balancing machine.
Five different wheel angles can be adjusted, and the correct alignment for your Acura is determined as part of the design process. As time passes, this alignment changes. Poor alignment will cause vibrations, excessive tread wear, and increased fuel consumption. We fix this problem by connecting your wheels to our wheel alignment machine.
