Are you trying to decide which luxury SUV deserves a spot in your driveway? Both the 2025 Acura RDX and 2025 Acura MDX are excellent choices for your next ride, but only you can decide which is right for you. Read on to see how these two SUVs compare before visiting your Acura dealership.

The 2025 Acura RDX vs. the 2025 Acura MDX: Compact vs. Midsize Luxury SUV at Your Acura Dealership

Seating Capacity

One significant difference between the 2025 RDX and the 2025 MDX is seating capacity. The compact RDX can seat up to five, while the MDX adds a two-person third row, which is ideal for kids and increases the seating capacity to seven. The 60/40-split seatback in the second row of the RDX can be folded flat by pulling a convenient handle, and the MDX’s second row includes a removable center seat for easy pass-through to the third row.

Comfort and Convenience Features

Both the RDX and MDX come with standard 12-way power heated front seats, with optional ventilation and heated rear outboard seats. The MDX adds a three-position memory setting for the driver’s seat and four-way manual adjustments for the second-row seats. Dual-zone automatic climate control is standard in the RDX, while the MDX features a tri-zone system. Both systems include humidity control and air filtration, and GPS-linked climate control is available. All passengers will enjoy a panoramic moonroof with either model.

A wireless charging pad is standard in both models. Amazon Alexa Built-in lets you naturally control either infotainment system with your voice, and the MDX also comes with Google Built-in.

Powertrains

The RDX is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 272 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. A 10-speed automatic transmission with sequential paddle shifters, shared with the MDX, sends the power to the standard all-wheel drive system. A 3.5-liter V6 with 290 hp and 267 lb-ft powers the base MDX, which comes with front-wheel drive, but a 355-hp 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 and all-wheel drive become standard on the Type S model.

Towing Capacities

If you need to tow anything with your new SUV, both the RDX and MDX have the capability, but the base MDX can tow 3,500 lbs with front-wheel drive and up to 5,000 lbs with all-wheel drive, while the RDX has a maximum capacity of 1,500 lbs.

If you need a compact luxury SUV with a friendlier starting price and standard all-wheel drive, the 2025 RDX fits the bill, but if a third row and more towing capacity are essential, the 2025 MDX might be a better match. Come check out your options in person at Open Road Acura of East Brunswick in East Brunswick, NJ and get ready to meet your new ride!
